In October of 2015, 100 million devices had already upgraded to Windows 10 Microsoft’s goal is to have that figure reach 1 billion within the next two to three years. Obviously Microsoft was doing something right Windows has remained one of the foremost operating systems as the years and decades have ticked by. The very first version of Microsoft Windows was released in 1985 (which means that the operating system and I have literally grown up together) however, it wasn’t until Windows 3.0 and Windows 3.1., released in 19 respectively, that the operating system began actually behaving like an operating system. Kind of amazing to think that the programs that used to require our computers’ entire processing power to run only need a browser and an emulator now, isn’t it? Sometimes, though, we still miss the good old days - which is why I’m so thrilled that, thanks to the Internet Archive, we now have access to hundreds of Windows 3.1 programs you probably forgot about. There’s no denying that technology has vastly improved since the early ‘90s sure, we often bemoan the fact that our culture is so plugged in so much of the time now - but when you step back and look at it all for a moment, the things technology is capable of accomplishing these days is really rather astonishing.
